What is ORCID?

ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is an independent, non-profit organisation that provides researchers with a unique and persistent digital identifier, known as an ORCID iD. This identifier distinguishes individual researchers from others with similar names and enables reliable linkage of research outputs and professional activities to their identity throughout their careers.

ORCID iD Requirement

All authors and co-authors are required to provide an authenticated ORCID iD.
Authors accessing the journal’s online system for the first time should complete their profile information and connect their ORCID iD through the authentication process.
During manuscript submission, authors must ensure that an authenticated ORCID iD is associated with the author record for each listed author and co-author.
Authors without an ORCID iD may register for one free of charge during the authentication process or directly on the ORCID website.

How and why do we collect ORCID iDs?

The journal collects authenticated ORCID iDs to ensure accurate and unambiguous identification of authors and to reliably associate their publications with their researcher identity.
ORCID iDs are collected through an authentication process. When authors select the ORCID authentication option in the journal’s online system, they are redirected to ORCID to sign in to an existing account or register for a new ORCID iD. Authors are then prompted to authorise the connection between their ORCID record and the journal’s system.
This authentication process verifies that the ORCID iD belongs to the respective researcher and prevents errors associated with manually entered identifiers.

Where are ORCID iDs displayed?

Authenticated ORCID iDs are displayed with the ORCID iD icon next to authors’ names on published article pages and, where applicable, within their public user profiles.
The ORCID iD establishes a persistent link among the author, their ORCID record, and their research outputs.
